ドーム映像番組のワークフロー
最近とみに忙しすぎる原因の一つに、自らドーム映像番組を制作しているというのがあります。これは宇宙モノのフルドーム用立体映像コンテンツで、まともに作ろうものならそれはそれは大変で、実際本当に大変です。
ただ、この映像はUniviewによるリアルタイム映像をベースに実際にドーム環境で制作しているのですが、このようなインタラクティブな映像制作というワークフローは素晴らしく革新的で、新しい世代の映像作りを予感させるものでした。
これまでに（立体）ドームに映像を投影する技術自体は十分に修練してきたつもりですが、本格的なドーム用の映像作りについてはまだまだ経験が浅く、絵を出してみながら新しい発見をする毎日です。ドーム特有の映像の歪みや圧迫感は理屈では理解しがたく、実際にドームで様々な絵を出して実感してみるのが一番でした。（この際にも、その場で対象物の大きさや位置などを変えて確認できるインタラクティブなツールがあると大変便利です。）
ドームが無くても投影結果の想像をしやすいようにと上図のようなツールも作ってみました。３Ｄ空間の仮想ドームに全天周の画像や動画を投影し、これを好きな位置から確認してみることが出来ます。これとドームマスター（魚眼展開図）表示とを切り替えながら確認することで、およそドームでどんな感じに見えるかを把握することが出来ます。しかしこれも、まずは実際にドームでドーム映像の勘所を身体で覚えてからでないと難しいですね。
Univiewによるインタラクティブな映像制作の最大の特徴は、マウスやジョイスティックなどを使ってドーム内で直接映像を生成できることです。もともと映画的な美しいカメラパスを生成しやすいよう設計されたFlightAssist機能のおかげで、何となく操作しているだけでも気持ちよく宇宙を飛び回るシーンができあがります。このカメラパスを記録しておいてドームマスター連番画像に出力し、後は通常の映像制作と同じように映像編集、BGMやナレーションを付けていくという作業になります。もちろん、こだわりだしたら一つのカメラパスでも何度となくやり直しをしたくなるので時間がかかりますが、思い描いた理想のカメラパスを目指して飽きるまで挑戦し続ける様はまさにゲーム感覚です。
インタラクティブな映像生成で素晴らしいのは、その試行錯誤の過程で、思ってもみなかった面白い映像表現や期待以上の出来上がりを生み出す場合があることです。視界を端からゆっくりと占めていく巨大な木星の姿は想像以上の迫力効果がありました。太陽系から銀河系全景へと視点を引いていく途中に、自然にヒアデスとすばるを飛び抜けるカメラパスがあることを発見したときは本当に興奮しました。この発見的映像制作こそがインタラクティブの醍醐味だと我ながら実感しました。
