Qt4.4でCanvas内にWidget配置が可能に
ここ何年も、アプリケーションGUIの構築にはTrolltechのQtを使うことが多いです。マルチプラットフォームに対応するためではありますが、何よりその洗練されたAPIにシビれます。今やGUIツールキットに留まらず、XMLパーサやネットワークアクセス、抽象2Dグラフィック描画（GDIのようなもの）などを含む膨大なフレームワークなっていますが、それでいて見通しが良く、使っていてとても気持ちが良いです。
そのQtの開発者ブログで告知されていましたが、次のバージョンアップとなるQt4.4では、抽象2Dグラフィック描画の中にインタラクティブなボタンやテキストエディタといったGUIパーツ（Widget）が配置できるようになる！とのことです。これは実は、とんでもないポテンシャルを持つアップデートです。
この機能を普通に使うだけでも、LabViewやAVSのような機能フローチャートを持つアプリケーションを非常に作りやすくなるでしょう。しかし、Qtの抽象2Dグラフィック描画はOpenGLコンテキスト内でも巧妙にエミュレーションして実行できることを考えると、さらに可能性が広がります。つまり、超多機能なGUI構築性能を持つQtの機能が、丸ごとOpenGLの3D空間内で実行しうるのです。イメージとしてはVISTAのWPFみたいなものですが、これがマルチプラットフォームでOpenGL内でマルチプラットフォームに実現可能になります。コレ最強。
いわゆる3D Widgetとして、やや使いづらそうでもCEGUIを試してみるかなぁと考えていたところなので、まともに動くならこれは最良の選択肢になりそうです。
